Red, Yellow, and Blue - Born Ruffians

I love everything about this song, it is really simple in nature yet so beautiful, the hypnotic guitar, the simple snare drum reminiscent of a military march, and the catch whistling. The album first conjures up thoughts of the Fleet Foxes with wonderful melodies and creation of sonic space. Then after the first song you get blasted with a catchy indie pop sound for the rest of the album, however it does not get repetitive or stale, like Vampire Weekend. The vocals rhythms are so unique, slurring several words in the matter of a beat or two is a something that is rarely done better. When the singer lets his vocals loose after a few songs you hear some pure vocal emotion. I love how they manage to fit so much sound into an album using no more than a 3 man band, relying mainly on guitar, bass and drums. The diversity between songs is something that is not easy to accomplish, and makes me happy to see that they don’t limit their sound like the majority of bands. I do feel the album gets a bit to long by the end but I still enjoy all the songs. This one will be in my car CD player for a while, and with that I will give the album a 8.5 out of 10.
